My Education

My education journey can be compared to seedlings in a nursery. Some seedlings have just germinated and require nurturing to reach their full potential, while others are well developed and ready to be transplanted. Similarly, my educational and professional journey continues to grow through continuous learning, experience, and self-development.

I was born in 1985 in a small farming community in Jamaica, where both of my parents were farmers and had no formal education. Growing up in this environment shaped my understanding of the struggles faced by rural communities, particularly small-scale farmers. From an early age, I became conscious of the social and economic challenges experienced by these communities and developed a strong desire to contribute to meaningful change.

At approximately fifteen years old, I vividly recall having conversations with small-scale farmers about the agricultural challenges they encountered daily. During that period, I realized that education would become my tool to help address and solve some of these problems. This realization inspired my interest in agricultural development and later strengthened my passion for researching the learning experiences of small-scale farmers in developing countries.

My career in science and agriculture began more than fifteen years ago. I have studied at three science and agriculture based institution and have worked in more than four different science-based  and education organizations. These academic and professional achievements reflect my commitment to lifelong learning, professional development, and my passion for agriculture, science, and education.

Over the years, I have accumulated more than ten years of practical experience working closely with agricultural communities, adult learners, and, most recently, First Nation communities. These experiences have strengthened my technical knowledge while deepening my appreciation for adult education and community development. Through my work, I have developed a passion for empowering others through learning, mentorship, and practical training.

I believe my greatest strengths are my ability to encourage and inspire others. I find fulfillment in helping individuals recognize their potential and develop confidence in their abilities. My years of working with diverse communities have strengthened my communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. I am highly self-motivated, resilient, confident, and eager to continue learning and growing both personally and professionally.

Another strength I possess is my ability to maintain an optimistic attitude even during challenging situations or moments when I may feel unfairly treated. I believe that perseverance, professionalism, and a positive mindset are important qualities for growth and success. My passion for education, agriculture, and community development continues to motivate me to make meaningful contributions to society and to support the growth and development of others.

My Professional Education

My professional education began in 2002 when I attended Elim Agricultural School. There, I successfully completed a three-year vocational agricultural program, where I gained most of my practical agricultural skills. Upon completion, I was awarded a certificate in General Agriculture.

In 2007, I attended the College of Agriculture, Science and Education located in Portland, where I successfully completed a two-year program in General Agricultural Science and was awarded a Diploma.

In 2016, I attended Dalhousie University, where I pursued and successfully completed a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Agriculture (Plant Science). This experience further strengthened my scientific knowledge and broadened my understanding of sustainable agricultural practices and research.

In 2020, I pursued and completed a three-year Master’s Degree program in Adult Education at St. Francis Xavier University. This program deepened my understanding of adult learning, community engagement, and educational leadership, while strengthening my passion for empowering individuals and communities through education and lifelong learning.
