Letter of Reference : Niran Foster, BSc
It is a pleasure to write this reference letter in support of Mr. Niran Foster’s portfolio.  Niran has completed his BSc in Plant Science from Dalhousie University in Truro, NS. I have known Niran for the past 5 years while a student at Dalhousie University and for 1 year professionally in his capacity as youth leader at our local church in Truro, NS
As a youth leader, Niran provided exceptional leadership and volunteer support for the youth. Niran has an uncanny ability to provide youth and young adults with a place to belong and has a proficient understanding of the challenges young people face and how to walk with them through them. He has a proven ability to provide and implement a long-term strategic vision for youth and a demonstrated ability to teach and guide youth and young adults.
Academically, Niran has unequivocally demonstrated perseverance, competitiveness and research capability independently and in a team to succeed in an advanced degree which is often a challenging and demanding program. He has excellent communication skills and is highly proficient in applying theory to analyzing the problem situations and providing supporting arguments that are both clear and persuasive in written format or orally.
At a personal level, Niran is a well-disciplined, industrious person with a pleasant personality, who has demonstrated great initiative. I am pleased that Niran is enrolled in the Masters program and have no doubt that he will successfully complete it in a timely fashion. He is dedicated , competent professional and an asset to any academic institution he joins. If I can be of any further assistance, or provide you with any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
 Yours sincerely,

Testimonials

To Whom it may concern,

I wish to express my appreciation to Mr. Foster for his guidance and expertise in the development of our Community Garden. Our project needed leadership from an informed source. He provided us with instructions and materials to get us moving in the right directions.

Simple directions which may have been common knowledge to others, helped “beginners “to have confidence in the process. All participants have received materials generated by him. The many tips on timing of planting, which plants are compatible in a box, pre and post box preparation, are a part of our program.

I hope that we can continue our relation in the future. Reaching out to us and giving of your time during your busy schedule means a great deal to us.

Yours Truly,

Harold A Borden Coordinator of the Community Garden

Reference letter for Niran Foster
To whom it may concern,
I have known Niran since he moved to the Truro area in 2016 or 2017 to complete a BSc. Agriculture degree (in Plant Science) at Dalhousie Agricultural Campus.  I was Niran’s direct supervisor for summer employment for the department of Plant Food and Environmental Sciences in summer 2017 and 2018. Niran’s work included caring for field plots of a range of crops in our plant demonstration garden and orchard, and assisting with vegetable crop production in the 1 acre campus Chef’s Garden.  The work includes all aspects of crop production, from soil preparation, fertilizing, seeding and transplanting, weed and pest control, irrigation, pruning and trellising, and harvesting, as well as other tasks such as grounds maintenance, seed germination testing, and numerous other plant-related tasks. It involved training on farm tractors and equipment, and use of small power equipment. Niran performed admirably in a range of tasks.
Apart from the many practical skills that Niran demonstrated (and learned through the work), I have found Niran to be honest, hard working and highly personable.  He is a very positive and determined individual who I think is capable of a great many different tasks if he sets his mind to it. I am impressed how he started on a small Jamaican farm and worked hard to get a diploma in agriculture, then came to Canada to do difficult jobs on livestock farms, then made the plunge to upgrade to a BSc degree, all while raising 3 children with his wife, and working summers and part time to help provide. He now is pursuing advanced studies while working, showing a continued determination and drive.
Niran strikes me as a practical person who learns for practical reasons, rather than for love of study. As such, I believe he will make the most of what he learns. Having completed his degree as a mature student – he has some personal experience and insight in adult education.
I would say Niran’s strongest trait is his positive attitude and determination. He is a great encourager of others, and in my observation, has been a good team player on a range of work teams. He is humble where he knows he has less knowledge than another team player, but also speaks up as needed, and takes initiative when he sees some work or a problem that needs addressed.
Niran has acted as a capable leader in the areas where he was given responsibility. For instance, he was responsible in 2018 for our main crop variety demonstration with over 100 plots of plants – of multiple species and varieties of agricultural plants planted at different stages for fall demonstration. He did an excellent job, with many positive comments on the crop demonstration that year.
I believe with Niran’s combination of determination, work ethic and positive attitude, he will make a success of his life’s endeavors, and could be an asset to any employer or business partner.

Sincerely,
 Michael Main

To Whom it may Concern
I have known Niran for 5 years, three of those were during university and the rest as work colleagues. I am so grateful to be able to call him a close friend.

During university, we studied and went through a lot of stressful classes together, when working together we had to overcome a lot of challenges. Niran is always fun and uplifting to be around. When things are stressful, or the work hard, it is always much easier and enjoyable to do with him. I have always loved working with Niran, he is a hard worker who is dedicated to whatever job he is tasked with and is quick and efficient at getting the work done. One of the areas that I have most enjoyed about working with Niran is that he engages everyone in the group, and makes sure people are happy and enjoying the work that they are doing. He cares deeply about other people and always strives to make sure that they are engaged, he is a great team player and always a joy to have in a group.

Niran Testimonial
I worked with Niran as research support staff at the Dalhousie University Faculty of Agriculture. Together, we manage 34 agronomy trials testing the characteristics and management practices of cereal and oilseed field crops throughout Nova Scotia. The job can be daunting at times: seeding, managing, harvesting, and collecting data from a diverse assortment of field crops across a wide area. Fortunately, I can think of no one better to work with on this endeavor than Niran.
In addition to his abundant experience in agriculture – coupled with his extensive knowledge base in the principles of agricultural science and horticulture – Niran brings a strong work ethic and boundless enthusiasm which makes him a priceless member of our team. In situations in which others would be inclined to declare a task impossible to accomplish, Niran is always the first to say that it can be done. And, more often than not, he succeeds in such situations.
I feel confident that Niran will take this spirit to all of his future endeavors, both personal and professional. Between our work together, his own personal market garden that he manages, his graduate work, and raising his family, it is truly impressive that he is able to maintain the same level of enthusiasm and positivity throughout them all. Ultimately, I am very happy to have him on our team. I feel that he is a critical component of our successes and will continue to bring that same energy to all of his future endeavors.
